(in which we bring on a new player and start making real moves)
A week ago I posted that we were hiring for someone to help us in a sales role. Today that person is starting work for us. I spent probably about 50 hours on the process, I’d say. Received close to 100 applications, exchanged messages with about a dozen people, interviewed three, did work exercises with two, and hired one.
All in all, not a bad week of work, though I did fall behind in the things I usually do. I feel bad about that, but then I remind myself that my job is to do anything that moves this company forward, and this week that job was acquiring a salesperson so I can put us on a steeper trajectory.
Now I’ll be able to start doing the other things I need to do (and the things I’m really good at), secure in the knowledge that we have both sales outreach and potential client inbound inquiries handled.
At least half of this job is spinning plates and trying not to cry in the corner when one drops. Because one will drop. You can’t do it all, friends.
But you can do a lot, and you can do your best. And usually that’s enough.
